Sports reporters love to use the word “record-setting” to ascribe athletes or teams with a level of greatness.

The term hardly does the No. 1 University of Saint Francis football team justice.

Saint Francis has set or tied 27 individual or team records while going 13-0 as the NAIA’s No. 1 ranked team this season. The Cougars face No. 2 Reinhardt (12-0) in the national championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday in Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Junior running back Justin Green set or tied nine records and senior quarterback Nick Ferrer set or tied seven records (with still-to-be determined single-season completion percentage a possible eighth) for the Cougars. Green was named first-team All-America by the America Football Coaches Association on Monday while Ferrer was picked for the second team. Junior linebacker Piercen Harnish was also voted to the second team.

“I just think my records are a reflection of how hard my team works,” Green said. “I couldn’t have done any of those records without my offensive linemen and coaches and the whole team. It’s just a reflection of the whole team.”

As for the record books, here are the new marks going into the Saint Francis archives this season (some season, career numbers will increase in NAIA title game):
