NS In-Depth: Snider’s Hannah Barnes

Hannah Barnes has consistently risen up the ranks of feared area shooters. Now a senior at Snider, Barnes was a true spot up star for a Panthers team that contended for the Summit Athletic Conference a year ago, giving Homestead two of their toughest games of the season.

Her status was forced to change going into her senior year. Many of her teammates graduated, leaving her as one of just two seniors on the 2017-18 team and forcing her to change her game to show a more dynamic attack. And Barnes has thrived at that. While leading her very young team, Barnes has been able to post big numbers, including 20-plus points in three straight games before the holidays. While still being a big threat from behind the three-line (example: she shot 4-of-6 from deep against Canterbury), Barnes has been a threat getting to the basket and getting her teammates involved showing strong capabilities to expand her game in her senior season.

HOMETOWN: Fort Wayne, Indiana

POSITION: Shooting Guard

• THE PLAYER — Hannah on Hannah: “I am a very strong and positive leader both on and off the court. I value working hard and being a team player first. I cherish and value family more than anything.”

• THE COACH — Snider’s Greg Friend on Hannah: “[She] works hard at her game, is a great leader and is a good example setter for the rest of the team.”

• THE TRAINER — Always 100’s Vernard Hollins on Hannah: “She’s one of the hardest workers you’ll ever meet. She is a player that every coach loves because shes like having another coach on the court and is a student of the game. She is a player that tries to do everything in her power to be better each and every day. She finds a way to be what her team needs and always gives a 110%. She’s also a gym rat, if no one else is in the gym, she is (before and after everyone else). Her shot has improved extremely over the years simply because she works on her craft, now she is one of the best shooters in the city. I was glad to make the call to Ferris State on Hannah’s behalf because I feel she would be a great attribute to their program.”
