Smith Academy’s Justin Booker, DeKalb’s Leigha Brown voted Fan Vote Players of the Week for January 22-27

The final regular season girls prep hoops fan vote saw DeKalb’s Leigha Brown take home 26.2 percent of a tightly contested vote.

Brown scored 24 points on Tuesday in a 51-40 win over Snider. On Friday, in a 74-68 win over Huntington North, she posted a triple double of 39 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Baron senior won by 76 total votes over Bishop Dwenger’s Caitlyn Ryan. Other nominees included Lakewood Park’s Chloe Joloff, Norwell’s Logan Rowles and Northrop’s Brianna Douglas.

On the boys side, Justin Booker claimed the first fan vote player of the week honor in Smith Academy’s history. Booker broke the school scoring record with 36 points on Tuesday in a 74-71 win over Delaware Christian Academy. On Saturday, he scored 28 points in a 73-60 win over Christel House Academy.

Booker earned 41.62 percent of the vote in a back and forth battle with Columbia City’s Mitchell Wilson. Other nominees included Bishop Dwenger’s Hayden Smithey, Woodlan’s Aaron Hahn and Adams Central’s Johnny Carroll.
