2018 Notre Dame Football Recruit Profile: Tommy Tremble

2018 Notre Dame football tight end signee Tommy Tremble

The Notre Dame football program got signed commitments from 21 players from 13 different states last month during the inaugural “early signing period.”

News-Sentinel.com sports reporter Tom Davis has been writing on the Fighting Irish for nearly two decades and is taking a daily look at each recruit leading up to the traditional National Signing Day (Wednesday).

TE TOMMY TREMBLE

Details

Notre Dame knows what it takes to recruit and develop a tight end and Tremble checks a lot of boxes in terms of having the potential to fit in with this storied position and program.

At 6-foot-3 and 224 pounds, the John’s Creek, Georgia native has the size and frame to look the part in a Notre Dame practice on day one.

He missed his senior season after breaking his left ankle in the second game for Wesleyan High School in Norcross, Georgia.

In his one game of action, Tremble made four catches and scored once.

Skills

Tremble has the size, speed and pass-catching skills necessary to contribute for the Irish.

As with most young tight ends, he’ll have to learn the nuances of being an effective blocker at the position, but he should be able to be productive in terms of receptions relatively early in his career.

Rankings

Tremble was a highly regarded tight end, with ESPN rating him as high as its 10th best tight end nationally, as well as 58th top player from the state of Georgia, which is incredibly deep in talent.

Rivals and 247Sports thought of Tremble as the 18th and 20th best tight end in the entire country.

Competing With

Tremble has the size and strength to hold his own early, if healthy. But it will be a climb up the Fighting Irish depth chart.

Notre Dame did graduate Durham Smythe, but it brings back veterans Alize’ Mack, Nic Weishar, Cole Kmet, and Brock Wright, as well as fellow freshman George Takacs.

Brian Kelly Says

“…it’s such a fertile ground in recruiting,” Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said of Georgia, “you just need to be in there, and there are great football players in there.

“We’ve got so many players that we can talk about that came out of there, you know, so, again, I think it’s just having a presence and getting back into a very, very good recruiting area for us. We need to have a great presence there.”
