2018 Notre Dame Football Recruit Profile: C’Bo Flemister

2018 Notre Dame football running back signee C'Bo Flemister

The Notre Dame football program got signed commitments from 27 players from 13 different states during the two “signing periods” this winter.

News-Sentinel.com sports reporter Tom Davis has been writing on the Fighting Irish for nearly two decades and is taking a daily look at each recruit.

PLAYER

C’Bo Flemister

DETAILS

Notre Dame needed to strengthen its depth at the running back position in wake of losing three athletes, each with eligibility remaining, over the past month.

Flemister was committed to Georgia Tech, but didn’t sign in the early signing period in December, as both the Fighting Irish and Tennessee pursued him.

He ran for nearly 2,400 yards and scored 35 times last season for Pike County High School in Georgia and closed his career with 16 games of over 100 yards gained in his career.

Flemister “checks all the boxes,” according to Notre Dame running back coach Autry Denson, as the Williamson, Georgia native is strong on the field, as well as off of it.

Academically, Flemister gained interest from the military academies, and Denson said he is a young man of faith, as well.

SKILLS

Flemister has a nice frame (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) in which to add strength, and he’ll have time to develop physically, as Notre Dame is not desperate for him to play immediately.

Denson said Flemister was a “throw-back player,” who has the speed and athleticism to run away from people, but also the toughness and mentality to get tough yardage through traffic.

RANKINGS

Flemister was named as the Georgia Sportswriters Association Class AAA Offensive Player of the Year, as well as was named by USA Today as a Georgia Football Second Team selection.

Both ESPN and 247Sports had Flemister rated among the top 88 running backs nationally.

He elevated from a two-star prospect to three stars late in the recruiting process.

COMPETING WITH

It is a positive that Flemister committed to Notre Dame after the aforementioned departures of C.J. Holmes, Josh Adams and Deon McIntosh.

Adams recently declared for the NFL Draft, while McIntosh and Holmes were both kicked out of the program.

Flemister will battle fellow freshman Jahmir Smith behind projected starter(s) Dexter Williams and Tony Jones Jr.

Another potential runner is incoming prospect Tariq Bracy, who has the skill-set to play running back or defensive back.

BRIAN KELLY SAYS

“The running back position,” Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said recently on National Signing Day, “obviously, was a need for us, and C’Bo Flemister is a guy that really was attracted to us with his running style.

“From a football standpoint, we loved the fact that we had a north-and-south back here that played with low pads, and that’s what we were looking for, a guy that could really hit it inside out for us and extremely productive at the position. He is a great fit for us, really solid student that fits here at Notre Dame, so we are really excited about C’Bo.”
