Three local teams advance to high school state title games
The Leo, Summit City and Homestead club hockey teams representing Fort Wayne advanced through pool play in this weekend’s state tournament to earn spots in next weekend’s state title games. Leo will play Columbus in the Class 2A title game and Summit City and Homestead will play in the Class 1A title game at the Parkview Ice House on Saturday.
Leo finished 3-0 during pool play, the Summit City Panthers edged the Fort Wayne Bruins 2-1 on Sunday to finish 3-0 and Homestead finished 2-0-1. All the games were played in South Bend.
Columbus edged Bishop Dwenger 8-7 in a shootout to earn the right to play Leo in the Class 2A title game.
The Class 1A game will start at 11 a.m. and the 2A game at 1:30 p.m.
Among the other local teams, the Fort Wayne Bruins were 2-1 in Class 1A and Carroll was 0-3 in Class 3A.
Bishop Dwenger is the last Fort Wayne team to win a state title, claiming the Class 2A crown last year. Leo was the Class 3A champion two years ago.
