Fort Wayne volleyball team stuns No. 3 UC-Irvine

Recalling the glory days of the program, the Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team shocked No. 3-ranked UC-Irvine 3-2 on Wednesday night to start its annual spring break trip. After hanging in the national rankings for most of the season, the Volleydons, 14-4, fell out this week, but they built an early lead against the Anteaters and won the fifth game 15-9.

Colton Stone had a huge night for Fort Wayne with 17 kills, three aces, three blocks and three aces. Pelegrin Vargas had 16 kills and two aces, and Tony Price had 13 kills, two aces, three blocks and a team-high nine digs. Tomas Gago had 11 kills as setter Michael Keegan ran a balanced offend with 47 assists.

The Volleydons had an 8-1 advantage in aces and 37-30 in digs.

The road trip continues with a match at No. 14 UC-Santa Barbara on Friday.
