Do you remember this key save of the game?

There were two key points to Wednesday’s Komets 4-2 win over Colorado in Game 3 of the ECHL’s Western Conference Finals. The first one was this save by Fort Wayne goaltender Michael Houser on Colorado captain Matt Garbowski The score was 1-1 with about 3:30 left in the period when Garbowski got the puck to the side of the net. He was wide-open and fired.

The puck hit the bottom of Houser’s glove which was pinned against his knee and then rebounded out.

“That was a nice save,” Houser said. “There were a couple in the second period where they had maybe a loose guy in front or two, but that’s how it’s been since the playoffs started. We’ve been playing so well defensively that you know going into the game you aren’t going to have to make a dozen of those saves, but you have to make a few of them at the right time. Usually, we lock it down pretty well for the most part after that.”

The Komets locked it down completely after that, and they locked the game up, two with a two-man power play in the last seconds of the period. That was the second key point of Wednesday’s game and I’ll have another story on that later.
