Former Carroll High School standout Hayden Jones finished his prep career in outstanding fashion in the state’s postseason showcase.

Jones was named 2018 Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North-South All-Star Series MVP after an impressive three games of baseball over two days at Four Winds Field in South Bend.

Jones was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored in a rain-shorted 8-4 win for the North on Saturday, was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in an 8-4 loss on Sunday, then finished with 1-for-1 with a double and one RBI in the North’s 8-0 win in the second game on Sunday. All told, Jones, the News-Sentinel Player of the Year, was 5-for-7 with five RBIs.

Jones, who will continue his career at Mississippi State, had already reported to college but returned home in order to play in his final prep event.

Jones’ high school teammate Riley Perlich pitched three innings in the first-game win, allowing one run while striking out one. Former Bishop Dwenger infielder Eric Doyle was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in the loss to the South. Other area players who contributed for the North in the series were DeKalb’s Alec Brunson (three walks, one run scored) and Huntington North’s Ian McCutcheon (four walks, three runs scored, two RBIs).
