Team lead in tackles during his three seasons.

The Indianapolis Colts have released linebacker D’Qwell Jackson, who led the team in tackles during his three years. He started 12 games in 2016, missing the final four after being suspended for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.

“His leadership and mentorship provided a valuable example for the younger players on this team,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said in a release. “We are grateful for all of his contributions to the organization and wish him the best.”

The release of Jackson, which will free up $5.5 million in salary cap space, is the first significant move by new general manager Chris Ballard.

Jackson was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2014, his first season with the Colts after the previous years with the Cleveland Browns.
