Notes from Tuesday’s Komets practice
After two days off (there was an optional skate yesterday), the Komets were working hard today in a brisk practice at Parkview IceHouse. It’s too early in the week for potential roster moves headed into the weekend, but Justin Hodgman hopes to get cleared from the doctor tomorrow. He’s day-to-day and working on conditioning after getting knocked out last week because of the flu, and Taylor Crunk is also day-to-day and hungry to get back. The Komets are currently loaded with forwards. Zac Larazza is still dealing with a concussion, but he’s getting there.
Defensively, they have six healthy blueliners but Komets coach Gary Graham said he’s got his eye on a couple of potential players to bring in when needed.
There’s definitely a sense of competition at practice as everybody wants icetime. Everybody but Larazza was on the ice today, so the Komets have 13 forwards trying for 10 spots.
As for the division race, everyone might want to pay attention to Cincinnati and Kansas City coming up. They play three times in a row coming up and both teams just got loaded up by their AHL affiliates. The Cyclones trail the Mavericks by three points but have three games in hand on the Mavericks.
There’s basically going to be six teams in the division competing for four playoff spots all the way to the end.
