Tailing the Komets: Ryan Culkin called up to Tucson

Komets defenseman Ryan Culkin has been called up to Tucson of the AHL. Culkin has appeared in all 42 Komet games to date and leads Fort Wayne defensemen with nine goals and 29 points while posting a +16.

As importantly, that leaves the Komets with only five defensemen heading into Friday’s game with Rapid City, but this also allows them plenty of time to bring in another one. Komets coach Gary Graham said Tuesday he’s got his eye on one or two already.

They could be looking at former Komet Frank Schumacher who is with Evansville of the Southern Professional Hockey League where he has four goals and 13 points in 22 games. He also had a four-game call-up earlier this season with Indy. He played very well for the Komets in nine games last season.

UPDATE: Just found out Frank Schumacher is hurt so it won’t be him.
