Updates heading into Game 2
The ECHL has suspended Cincinnati forward Dominic Zombo for tonight’s game and suspended him for his second-period hit on the Komets’ Justin Hodgman. Hodgman is under the concussion protocol and is very doubtful for tonight’s game.
I thought I had seen him come out to skate again in the third period, but that was incorrect.
Zombo was assessed a match penalty for illegal check to the head. The ECHL has official supervisors at each playoff game, and Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Ernst is following this series.
Don’t be surprised if the Komets go with five defensemen at times with Daniel Maggio playing more time at forward, more than he did Saturday night when he was posted in front of the net on the power play.
The Komets also have several game-time decisions to make on more players for tonight. Because they cannot add anyone to the active roster because of health problems, there’s a good chance they will be skating short-handed tonight in Game 2 starting at 6 p.m. We’ll see what happens before announcing the specifics.
Tonight’s referees are Chris Pointes and Liam Sewell.
