Great Lakes leads Fort Wayne 17-8 after eight innings

Friday, May 19, 2017 03:19 am

The game between the Fort Wayne TinCaps and Great Lakes Loons was suspended after the eighth inning early Friday morning at Parkview Field because of the Midwest League's curfew rule. No inning can start after 12:50 a.m. according to the rule. The game will be resumed at 6:05 Friday night with the Loons leading 17-8. Friday's regularly scheduled game will begin at 7:05 p.m.

The TinCaps took the lead early as Fernando Tatis Jr. led off the bottom of the first with home run over the left-centerfield fence. The lead was shortlived however as Great Lakes scored five in the top of the second.

Fort Wayne responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-3. A throwing error by Loons catcher Steve Berman allowed the runs to score.

Run-scoring singles by Jorge Ona and Hudson Potts allowed the TinCaps to tie the score at 5 in the third. Both teams scored a run in the fourth to make the score 6-6. Fort Wayne's run scored on Ona's third home run of the season.

Great Lakes scored four runs in the sixth and seven in the eighth to open up a 17-6 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Marcus Greene Jr. had a two-run double for the TinCaps to trim the margin to 17-8 before the game was suspended at the conclusion of the inning.

Ona, Potts, Greene and Eguy Rosario each had two hits for Fort Wayne. Other hits were by Jack Suwinski and Tatis.
