The Fort Wayne TinCaps took control of the game early and went on to beat the Lansing Lugnuts 13-4 on Monday at Parkview Field. It was a season-high for runs scored for Fort Wayne.

The TinCaps scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Reinaldo Ilarraza got the rally started with a one-out double. He scored when Jorge Ona singled to left field. After an out, Hudson Potts hit a two-run homer to give Fort Wayne a 3-0 lead. It was Potts’ 10th home run of the season.

A two-out rally in the second inning produced two more runs for the TinCaps. Singles by A.J. Kennedy and Ilarraza sandwiched around a walk to Fernando Tatis Jr. loaded the bases. Ona’s single drove in Kennedy and Tatis for a 5-0 lead.

Nate Easley homered in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-0. It was second home run of the season for the 21-year old left fielder.

Michel Baez, 2-0, started on the mound for Fort Wayne and pitched six scoreless innings while striking out seven. The 6-8, 220-pound right hander allowed only two base runners - one by a hit and one by a walk.

Will Headean relieved Baez to start the seventh and ran into trouble. Lansing trimmed the margin to 6-3 against Headean as he allowed three runs on three hits while walking one and throwing two wild pitches in the inning.

Fort Wayne responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to break the game open. Tatis and Buddy Reed both had run-scoring triples in the inning. The other two runs scored on singles by Ilarraza and Potts.

The TinCaps scored their final three runs in the eighth inning for a 13-3 lead. The runs scored on singles by Ilarraza and Ona and a sacrifice fly by Brad Zunica.

Blake Rogers pitched the final two innings for Fort Wayne and allowed one run in the ninth.

Ilarraza had four hits and Ona three to lead the TinCaps’ 15-hit attack. Potts contributed two hits while Tatis, Zunica, Reed, Easley, Kennedy and Marcus Greene Jr. each had one hit. All nine players in the Fort Wayne lineup had at least one hit.
