Born in Fort Wayne in 1868, the first baseman played for the Chicago Colts/Orphans for six seasons and the Washington Senators for one from 1895 to 1901. He also played some third base and outfield during his career, hitting .317 with 11 home runs and 341 RBI in 698 games. He also had 186 stolen bases with 47 in 1895 and 46 in 1896. His best season was his first when he hit .358 in 133 games with Chicago in 1895 when 197 hits and 88 RBI. He hit over .300 in his first five seasons, but hit .264 and .191 his last two seasons.
