This selection might be a surprise, but the Bishop Luers graduate started as a walk-on at Purdue, then was an all-Big Ten selection as a junior when he led the league with five interceptions. What’s also interesting about Beery is that he started his career with the Boilermakers as a wide receiver, making 38 catches for 606 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed 27 times for 151 yards and another score. He was fourth in the Big Ten with 27 catches as a sophomore and third with 16.8 yards per reception. His highlight was four interceptions against Wisconsin, which tied a Big Ten record.
