Fort Wayne’s All-Time Greatest Series: Jason Baker, punter

A Wayne graduate and a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder, Baker was a standout punter for Iowa for four seasons, averaging 41.6 yards per punt. His 42.5-yard average as a senior in 2000 ranked him 17th in the nation when he received honorable mention all-Big Ten honors. Maybe his best statistic was his ratio of downing balls inside the 20-yard line-to-touchback ratio, which was three-to-one during his career. He was also the Most Valuable Player of the 1997 Sun Bowl after kicking eight times for 391 yards. He left Iowa as the school’s all-time leader with 272 punts and 11,304 total yards.
