Bob Pelkington, forward News-Sentinel names area’s all-time college basketball team
The 6-7 Central Catholic product was one of the best rebounders in his or any other era. As a senior at Xavier University in 1964 he led the nation, grabbing 21.8 boards per game (beating out Paul Silas) after finishing second as a junior at 16.2 per game. He averaged 11.7 as a sophomore and 16.6 for his three-year career, still the best in school history. He also averaged 13.4 points during his career and scored 1,075 points, shooting 46 percent. He scored a career-high 29 points against Western Kentucky on Dec. 30, 1961. He also averaged 3.2 assists per game in his career.
