Mad Ants lose to Rio Grande Valley at home

The Fort Wayne Mad Ants fell behind 63-48 at halftime and couldn’t make up the difference in a 125-115 loss to Rio Grande Valley on Friday at Memorial Coliseum. The loss dropped Fort Wayne to 19-15 – 6 1/2 games behind Raptors 109 in the Central Division standings of the NBADL.

With two minutes remaining, the Mad Ants faced an eight-point deficit. Two free throws by Ben Bentil followed by a fast break dunk by Stephan Hicks gave Fort Wayne a chance with a minute and a half left. They could not overcome the four point Rio Grande Valley lead. The Vipers iced the game at the free throw line.

Jarrod Uthoff led the Mad Ants with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Five other players reached double figures scoring for Fort Wayne. They were Trey McKinney-Jones with 20, Bentil 19, Alex Poythress 17, Jordan Loyd 12 and Hicks 11.

Julyan Stone had five assists to lead the Mad Ants while Bentil led the team with four steals.

Darius Morris of Rio Grande Valley led all scorers with 28 points followed by Chinanu Onuaku with 27 and Isaiah Taylor with 21. <br>
