Wedge enters MVC Hall of Fame
Fort Wayne native Eric Wedge was inducted into the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame on Friday. Wedge was a first team All-America selection as a junior catcher for Wichita State in 1989 after leading the Shockers to the College World Series championship. The Northrop graduate batted .380 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI that season and was named the MVC Joe Carter Player of the Year.
Wedge played four seasons in the major leagues for the Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies. He managed the Cleveland Indians for 7 years and the Seattle Mariners for 3 years. Wedge currently works for the Toronto Blue Jays as field coordinator over their minor league affiliates.
