Bowling Green hands TinCaps fifth straight loss

The Fort Wayne TinCaps outhit Bowling Green 10-8 but it wasn’t enough as the Hot Rods handed Fort Wayne its fifth straight loss, 6-1, on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark in Kentucky.

Bowling Green struck first in the second inning when Adrian Rondon doubled to lead off the inning. He eventually scored on a first and third double steal.

Fort Wayne responded immediately with a run in the top of the third. Reinaldo Ilarraza hit a two-out double to right field and scored on a single by Fernando Tatis Jr.

The big inning for the Hot Rods was the bottom of the third when they scored five runs off TinCaps’ starter Austin Smith. Smith, 0-1, allowed five hits and a walk in the inning. He also threw a wild pitch and catcher Marcus Greene Jr. was charged with a passed ball.

Smith’s final pitching stats were six runs allowed, all earned, on seven hits in four innings. The right hander walked two and struck out three.

The TinCaps’ bullpen shutout the Hot Rods the final four innings. Emmanuel Ramirez allowed one hit in three innings while striking out four. Wilmer Torres pitched the final inning and retired Bowling Green in order with two strikeouts.

Ilarraza, Tatis Jr., and Jorge Ona were the leading hitters for Fort Wayne with two hits each. Other hits were by Hudson Potts, Brad Zunica, Greene Jr. and Rod Boykin. The TinCaps left seven men on base including three in scoring position. <br>
