Women living in six Fort Wayne homeless and halfway house programs will have holiday fun arrive early when the Fort Wayne Urban League hosts them for a “Christmas on the Campus” event Monday.
The event at the Urban League office, 2135 S. Hanna St., is designed to show the women love and compassion during the holiday season, said Kathryn Mbwelera, the organization’s executive assistant. The event isn’t open to the general public.
Some of the 60 women expected are victims of domestic violence, physical or sexual abuse, violent crime, or other trauma, Mbwelera said. Others may be dealing with mental health conditions, substance abuse or court-ordered detention.
The event will include playing games for prizes, musical entertainment, gift giveaways, food and other fun, Mbwelera said.
The gifts, prizes and food for the event have been donated by local businesses including Walmart, Kroger, Gordon Food Service, Vera Bradley, Ash Brokerage, Fancy & Staples, Outer Grace Boutique, Kin, By His Grace Transportation, Consigned Designs and reNEW Upscale Resale.
