You can choose from nearly 70,000 books at bargain prices during the Friends of the Allen County Public Library group’s Summer Book Sale this Wednesday through Saturday in the first-floor meeting rooms of downtown branch, 900 Library Plaza.

Paperbacks are 50 cents, and all hardback books are $1 each. On Saturday, you can bring as many bags as you want – and as big a bag as you have – and fill them with books for a cost of $5 per bag, said Stephanny Smith, the library system’s community engagement manager.

The books for sale include those donated to the library and books that library users haven’t been checking out, Smith said. The sale will make room for new books to help keep the library collection fresh, she added.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the Friends of the Allen County Public Library group, a nonprofit that supports the library system with funding for programs, staff training and community outreach, Smith said.

Books have been separated by topic or type, such as large-print, cookbooks, “Harry Potter” series, mysteries, paperbacks, Christian fiction and more.

Shoppers can pay with cash, check or charge card, Smith said.

The library staff also will validate parking passes for people who park in library lots but don’t have a library card, she said.
