Fort Wayne’s south side to get $23 million assisted living center

A $23 million, 119-unit affordable assisted living facility has been proposed for Fort Wayne’s south side.

According to an application for tax incentives to be considered by City Council Tuesday, Fort Wayne AAL, LP/Vermilion Development LLC of Chicago will erect the facility at 7125 S. Hanna St., creating 35 full-time jobs with an average salary of nearly $44,000.

If the request for an abatement is approved the developers’ taxes on the improvements would be reduced by about $4.06 million over 10 years.

Also seeking a tax abatement is Fort Wayne Metals, a medical wire maker that this week announced plans for a $51 million expansion expected to create about 337 new jobs. According to the application, the positions will pay an average of $51,445. The company was founded in 1970 and had sales of about $157.35 million in 2016. The abatement would reduce the company’s taxes on new equipment by $2.5 million and real estate improvements by more than $1.5 million over 10 years.
