THIS DAY IN HISTORY: February 19 in photos

1952 - Indiana & Michigan Co.'s interurban rail service had its last run Feb. 19, 1952. The locomotives had provided freight service between I & M and the city filtration plant, the Fort Wayne State School and Centlivre Brewery. The line had been in service since 1906 and was the last remaining interurban rail line in the state. Getting ready for the last run, brakeman Wilson Wells checked in with Judson H. Cline, the motorman.

1997 - Members of the Blue Dragons select soccer team practice in the parking lot between Carroll High School and Middle School. The team's unorthodox coaching and practice has led to greater enjoyment by the players. The coach claims that talent has led the team to national championships.
1997 - Sudana Zahir, left, and her husband Ghani work on designing a menu using one of the Macintosh computers at the Allen County Public Library's new Community Computer Center, "Access Fort Wayne." Ghani said the center is benefical for those who don't want to purchase an expensive system without trying it out. He also said that it is an excellent use of tax money.
1999 - Homestead High School gymnast Shellen Goltz, left, works with coach Jill Beauchamp on a dance segment for her floor routine. Goltz, who finished seventh in the all-around at state last year, has the area's third-best all-around score this season.
2001 - Narrow hallways, odd spaces and notable architechture define the challenges and problems facing North Side High School as it looks towards a long-overdue renovation on the 74-year-old building.
2003 - After a change of air bottles, Fort Wayne firefighters prepare to head back into a burning house on the 4300 block of Lafayette Street Wednesday night. Preliminary investigators suspected the fire began in the basement of the vacant house.
2003 - Ann Colone, WFWA 39 is airing a retrospective of her career on Channel 15. The bust behind her is of her, made by her uncle.
2007 - Third District City Councilman Tom Didier talked about his position on the smoking ordinance the City has passed during a meeting at Piere's.
2008 - Dan McCoy, owner / operator of Bevinco of Northeast Indiana, weighs a liquor bottle at Big Al's Bar & Grill, 1712 Bluffton Road. He's helping the bar keep track of stock and usage to help prevent loss. The bottles are bar coded and tracked in his computer database against the amount of sales.
2008 - From right to left, Ben Schenkel, a Purdue fan, makes a face as Purdue makes a makes a bad play. Pam Zimmerman and Scott Buckel, also Purdue fans watch the game intently.
2009 - Owner Jim McCollister and Manager Lisa Owens stand in the parking lot of Checkerz, a bar at 1706 W. Till Road -- a parking lot that will be significantly reduced when the state widens Till and Lima roads. McCollister said staying in business will require about $100,000 more than the state is offer for his land.
2009 - Homestead's Anderson Whipp, center, launches off the starting block for the 100 freestyle heat race during Thursday's preliminaries of the South Side Sectional at Helen P. Brown Natatorium. Whipp qualified for Saturday's finals with the top seed in the event.
2014 - Pure Movements barre class instructor Polly Martin includes a number of kicks, swats and mat pilates in the popular barre class.
2015 - Toledo center Troy Schwab sneaks the game-winning goal past Komets goaltender Pat Nagle during the shootout Wednesday night.
2015 - Mary Newkirk, Alzheimer's patient is helped by music therapy. With her are her daughter Karen Sanderson and husband Terry Newkirk. Newkirk is a resident at Heritage Park, 2001 Hobson Rd.
2016 - Preston Jennins, right, climbs the ladder after Brandon Gernhardt, both sophomores at the University of Saint Francis, after taking the plunge Thursday afternoon in the university’s Mirror Lake for the Hoosier Burn Camp. This was the second year they had done it.
2016 - Holly Chaille, an Advanced Master Gardener, and Allison Wheaton, executive director of Summit Equestrian Center, sit with Princess, the three-legged goat, in the center’s new healing garden. The new garden has been designed to be a peaceful restorative space for animal and humans
