The Allen County Coroner’s Office has determined that a man found Thursday evening near downtown Fort Wayne in an alley died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Fort Wayne Police were called at 7:06 p.m. to a report of the sound of gunshots and someone lying in an alley in the 800 block of East Berry Street, just west of Harmar between Berry and Wayne streets, according to police spokesman Officer Mark A. Bieker.

Responding officers were told that a vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly after gunshots were heard. Police don’t have a description of the vehicle or any suspect information at this time, according to Bieker.

Officers found the victim suffering from what looked like a gunshot wound. He was initially listed in critical condition, according to Bieker. However, after Three Rivers Ambulance Authority and Fort Wayne Fire Department medics tended to the victim he was pronounced dead.

The coroner’s office has identified him as Malcolm D. Robinson, 40, of Fort Wayne. His death is the 13th homicide in Allen County in 2018.

Police detectives talked to residents of the neighborhood and possible witnesses while Crime Scene Technicians processed the scene.

Anyone with any information regarding Robinson’s death is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.

His death is being investigated by police, the coroner’s office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
