Not much left of former Scott’s grocery on North Anthony Boulevard in Fort Wayne

A concrete block wall that hasn’t been visible in decades now forms the backdrop for the final cleanup work from the demolition of the former Scott’s Food and Pharmacy store at Crescent Avenue and North Anthony Boulevard.

Work started May 17 to tear down the grocery store, which had been operated by Kroger at the time it was closed because of structural problems in May 2012.

Building and property owner Bill Rogers said in late April he had started the process to have the building demolished after several years of trying to sell the property. Rogers said he hoped tearing down the grocery building may create more buyer interest in the 3.5-acre location, which is on the west corner of a busy intersection about a half mile south of the IPFW campus.

Two free-standing buildings on the property will remain – the Chung King Express Chinese restaurant and the vacant former Keltsch Pharmacy store.
