Fort Wayne woman’s death from July 3 vehicle accident ruled Allen County’s 12th traffic fatality of 2018

A woman who was seriously injured July 3 when hit by a vehicle she had just exited has been ruled the 12th traffic fatality this year in Allen County, the Allen County Coroner’s office reported today.

Joyce Johnson, 75, of Fort Wayne, was injured about 4:45 p.m. July 3 in the 400 block of West Jefferson Boulevard, the coroner’s office announcement said. She reportedly had gotten out of a vehicle, and the driver began backing out of a parking space when the vehicle hit Johnson and ran over her.

Johnson was taken to a local hospital, but the coroner’s office later received information she had died of her injuries, the announcement said.

The coroner’s office ruled her cause of death was blunt-force injuries due to a motor vehicle-pedestrian crash. Her death was ruled an accident.
