1996 - Scott Kidd,left and Denny Zimmerman,right, of Dennis Sign put up the new sign for the Mouse House Cheese Company that will be a part of Munchies South, Friday afternoon.
1997 - Better Than Ezra, from Baton Rouge, La., closed out the Edgefest concert Friday night at Memorial Coliseum.
1999 - Steve Vernasco, left, is embraced by Jim Kelley after he won the Fort Wayne City Golf Tournament Monday afternoon at Brookwood Golf Club. Vernasco defeated Ben Fox in a sudden death round of golf after the two men tied during regular play.
2000 - Wrecking crews began the demolition of the Old Lutheran Hospital today on Fairfield Avenue.
2001 - Phil's Market, at Pontiac Street and Anthony Boulevard, is pictured on Thursday, Aug. 9. The market could be demolished to make way for a 40,000-square-foot retail center, built by a developer from Michigan.
2004 - A Cadillac Eldorado that crashed into a tree on Wells Street around 3:30 pm Monday afternoon. The car was wrapped around the tree to the point that the driver had to be extricated. Police said that they had never seen an accident with as much passenger compartment intrusion that did not result in a fatality.
2005 - Andrew Thomas, member YLNI, is organizing a revival of the long lost Barr Street Market. With the help of Julie Morrison of the History Center, the Center is donating the space, the market will be back up and running for four weeks beginning Sept. 10. They will then try and bring it back next year.
2007 - New Lane Middle School Sixth-grader Tiberious McGhee, 11, gets a chance to try his school computer log-in during "transition day" at the school. It gives the incoming sixth-graders a chance to get used to their new school before the first day with all of the older students.
2012 - This threesome seems all smiles for the Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival Picture Your Pet event. Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control held the annual event July 15 and 16 at Lakeside Park.
2014 - Friday morning the pavement was coming up off the intersection of the Ewing Street Bridge and Superior Street in preparation for a $4 million traffic roundabout at Superior, Wells, Fairfield and Ewing just north of downtown Fort Wayne. In addition to connecting the five-way intersection, the project will convert Fairfield and Ewing to two-way traffic and will include landscaping, sidewalks, bike lanes and other improvements. Work is expected to be complete in two construction seasons.
2016 - The roast beef sandwich was not good. There weren’t enough sandwich ingredients to stand up to the baguette and the dry bread drowned out all the meaty flavor. The lemon-scented orzo side salad was excellent.
