1955 - Walter Tharp Jr. dresses a mannequin Aug. 12, 1955, in the window of Wolf & Dessauer, where he is often "onstage." A graduate of Fort Wayne Art School, he has also taken a vocational art course at Central High School that included part-time work in commercial art, sign painting and window dressing.
1955 - Actor Cary Grant, right, meets Mrs. Frank Benedict, president of Quimby Theaters, on Aug. 12, 1955, at an event at the Van Orman Hotel. Grant was in town to promote his latest film, "To Catch a Thief," which was opening at the Quimby-owned Clyde Theater.
1958 - This woman, crossing Calhoun Street at 12:52 p.m. on Aug. 2, 1958, is cited as an example in a News-Sentinel article on "what's wrong with Fort Wayne." She was one of four jaywalkers spotted in a 12-minute period on this block.
1993 - 8-year-old Ashlee Anspach of Fort Wayne races full speed ahead to catch up to Big Boy during Azar's Big Boy On The Bases contest at the Wizard's game Thursday night.
1997 - Eleanor Feasby of New Haven removes any older, yellowing water lily leaves in one of her two auxiliary water garden ponds. She starts the lilies in these ponds and moves the mature plants to her main water garden.
1998 - Christopher Arnold,7, plays in the water at North Side Park Pool Wednesday night.
1999 - Cecila Wehrly adjusts her daughter Sara's hair prior to a senior portrait photo shoot Tuesday at Michael's photography. Michael Kleber, the photographer, uses a variety of backgrounds, and even will shoot senior portraits on location if requested.
2002 - Fort Wayne police officer Bob O'Leary directs motorists through the construction at Washington Center and Coldwater Roads because of the added confusion of the electricity being out in the area which disabled the traffic lights.
2004 - Mike "Dead-Eye" Dooley of the News-Sentinel mans the .50 CAL machine gun at the waist of "Pacific Prowler," a WWII era B-25 bomber.
2005 - Tyler Bennett, 7, searches under a rock for a possible cache as he and his brother, Austin, 9, look during a family hunt on the downtown River Greenway near Lawton Park Friday morning. The boys' father, Jeff Bennett, says he likes Geocaching because it gets the family out of the house together and the boys are not just playing video games.
2005 - Vacation Bible school students at Zion Lutheran Church (L-R) Ahmari Thomas, 8; Khaliyah McNair, 8 and Arrie Hill, 9, play recorders during a music class.
2009 - Masayuki Shoji, host family member Frank Ebetino, and Barb Thuma. The Japanese teacher, 29, from Tokyo, is here as a part of a teacher exchange program sponsored by Purdue University and the International 4-H.
2010 - GE team members Mark Rottinger,left, and Jeremy Woods, left, work on building a small bridge at the Early Childhood Alliance, 516 E. Wayne St. Thursday morning during the United Way Day of Caring. GE was at all three of the Early Childhood Alliance sites doing various projects ranging from sanitizing toys to landscaping.

2011 - Samaritan takes off Thursday morning on its way to the the hanger Thursday morning. The helicopter will be relocating to the new Parkview Regional Medical Center on Dupont Road.
2014 - At The Venice, the O’Boyle Royal sandwich is stacked with thinly sliced beef, melted cheese, juicy tomatoes and crisp lettuce, all encased in a light bun.
