Cerulean founder and Fort Wayne native Caleb France and Utopian Coffee founder Brendon Maxwell will team up to open a brewery and BBQ-themed restaurant at 118 Columbia St. on the “Landing.”

“We have been looking a while now for the perfect opportunity to be a part of Fort Wayne’s vibrant food and beverage scene. When the opportunity was presented for Brendon and myself to be a part of The Landing neighborhood, we couldn’t resist. We are thrilled to not only create a brewery within the downtown core, but to do it with the help and influence of the community,” France said in a statement.

Bobby Maly, principal of the Cincinnati-based Model Group, the developer for the $35 million project that will convert the historic block into shops, housing, restaurants and other attractions, said in a statement he is excited about the announcement because “We are focused on creating a brand new Landing that is a primary home for Fort Wayne’s entrepreneurs–living here, working in urban office space here, creating new businesses here, and meeting over a coffee or a beer to launch something new. Second, we believe The Landing is a place for people who want to be a part of the broader downtown Fort Wayne renaissance story, and these two homegrown entrepreneurs certainly fit that bill.”

Maxwell and The Model Group previously announced that Utopian Coffee was locating its first retail coffee bar at The Landing.

The project features the revitalization of seven historic buildings and construction of one new building and will include 70 new apartments and 60,000 square feet of retail and office space. The Landing will be open for tours this Sunda,y Sept. 9, as art of the “Be a Tourist in Your Hometown” event.
