Salvation Army, Toys for Tots Christmas applications start Monday
The Salvation Army and Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots will be taking applications for Christmas assistance Monday through Friday of next week at the Salvation Army, 2901 N. Clinton St. Doors will be open each day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., depending on the volume of applicants. Unlike previous years, all days are open for anyone; the first letter of your last name does not matter. Applications will be taken by household. If more than one family is requesting assistance in the same household, they must apply together.
Applicants should have a photo ID, Social Security Card or ITIN Card for all members of the household, birth certificates for all children under 18 (custody papers will also be required if you are not a birth parent), proof of income for the entire house, including employment, unemployment, SS/SSI/SSDI, etc. Social Security for children cannot be used as income for the entire household, and child support. Households without both birth parents must show proof of child support. Proof can be obtained at the Allen County Clerk’s office regardless of payment status even if you have never filed for support.
Applicants must also bring proof of assistance for the entire house, such as food stamps, TANF, housing, etc. If there are any bills you do not pay, you must provide proof of how it is paid. Also, bring proof of expenses for the entire house, such as utility bills, lease, rent receipts, phone, cable, medical, etc. You should also know clothing sizes for all children 14 and younger.
Missing documents will result in denial of an interview. People with questions should contact the Salvation Army before Monday, Oct. 8, at 744-2311 or by visiting www.safortwayne.org
