City honors Bud, Jean Mendenhall for decades of service

Thursday was “Bud and Jean Mendenhall Day” in Fort Wayne in honor of the couple that have been neighborhood leaders and community advocates for more than 30 years and recently announced their retirement from leadership with the Bloomingdale Neighborhood Association.

“Bud and Jean are wonderful people, and we’re so appreciative of their commitment and dedication to neighborhoods, community involvement and the well-being of all residents,” Mayor Henry said in a statement. “Connectivity to trails, the new Franklin School Park, improvements along the Wells Street corridor, investments in neighborhood infrastructure and riverfront development are just a few of the projects the Mendenhalls have been involved with to improve the quality of life in our community. Their leadership and volunteerism have been instrumental in Fort Wayne becoming a point of destination city.”

The Mendenhalls were joined by family members, friends, elected officials and city employees for the special recognition ceremony.
