‘Protecting Places of Worship’ seminar is May 31

A meeting for faith-based leaders and community members on how to prevent and respond to hate crimes against places of worship will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the Public Safety Academy: Ivy Tech South Campus, 7602 Patriot Crossing.

The Protecting Places of Worship Forum is facilitated by the United States Department of Justice Community Relations Service and hosted by the city of Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Police Department. Topics will include an overview of religious hate crimes, historical and generational effects of policing, preventing and responding to active shooter situations and fortifying houses of worship.

Speakers will include Mayor Tom Henry and representatives from the Police Department, United States Attorney, Office for the Northern District of Indiana, Federal Bureau of Investigation-Indianapolis Field Office and Department of Homeland Security-Indianapolis.
