Due to wet weather, the opening of the riverfront Promenade Park will be delayed until Aug. 9-11, the city announced Wednesday.

The park’s grand opening had been scheduled for June 21-23, but recent wet weather has made it more difficult for construction crews to complete work on certain aspects of the park. Mayor Tom Henry said concrete work was especially affected.

Highlights of areas of the park that have been impacted the most by the weather include:

*Parkview Tree Canopy Trail

*PNC Playground

*Little Creek Bioswale

*Rotary Fountain

*Betsy Chapman Family Gardens

*The Journal Gazette Foundation Dining Gardens

*Ambassador Enterprises Amphitheatre

Highlights of areas of the park that are on schedule:

*Old National Bank Plaza

*Park Foundation Pavilion

*Auer Lawn

*Convergence Sculpture

*Sweetwater Bandshell

*Entry Plaza

In addition, construction of the Doermer Kids’ Canal is on schedule at this time. The city is working with local approval agencies regarding particular features around the canal. The grand opening will feature a floating band performance, community art projects, lighted boat parade, butterfly release, and boat rides.
