Men seek Democratic nod for New Haven mayor, council

The Democratic Party offered no candidate for New Haven mayor or in the city’s 3rd District City Council district, but two men plan to be on the ballot come November.

New Haven Police officer Darren Peterson on Thursday is expected to announce plans to challenge Republican mayoral nominee Steve McMichael, while Frank Sickles intends to challenge incumbent Republican Craig Dellinger in the 3rd District.

Peterson is school resource officer for New Haven High School.

The Democratic Party must pick a candidate for the November general election by June 3, according to the Allen County Election Board.

Republican Mayor Terry McDonald is not seeking re-election.
