Blue Jacket to open second clothing store

Fort Wayne-based nonprofit Blue Jacket Inc. has expanded its operations with a second thrift-style business professional clothing store. A grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m.

Located at 5511B Coldwater Road on the same side of the Coldwater Crossing Plaza as Hobby Lobby, the ribbon-cutting kicks off a week of activities. The activities will be promoting Blue Jacket’s Fantasy of Lights, Career Academy and 2nd Chance Art Exhibit with raffles, sponsorships and fun events like a block party with refreshments and light snacks.

All items in the store are the product of donations and serves two purposes. Proceeds from the sale of the clothing go to Blue Jacket and we also provide clothing to clients who come through our program. Over the last four years clients have received 4,661 pieces of clothing from the store. In 2018 alone, clients received 2,813 pieces of clothing.

Founded in 2003, Blue Jacket works to address critical and unmet needs for people wanting to earn their second chance, and a refresher on their career. Its mission is to provide training and opportunities to anyone with a barrier who is striving to earn gainful employment. Restoring hope and confidence in a person carrying the burden of guilt is a priority while helping to develop job seeking, on-the-job and vocational skills. This largely happens through Blue Jacket’s two-week Career Academy training.
