Library’s genealogy center to host ‘Midnight Madness’ on Oct. 25
The Genealogy Center at the Allen County Public Library will hold its fifteenth Midnight Madness event on Friday, Oct. 25. Though the rest of the Main Library will close at 6 p.m., customers will have access to the Genealogy Center until midnight.
In addition to access to the Genealogy Center’s resources and materials, three programs will be offered throughout the evening. Midnight Madness is part of the Center’s Family History Month offerings throughout October.
The three programs that will take place that evening are:
“Finding and Using Catholic Church Records” will begin at 6:30 p.m. Increasing numbers of Catholic records are available. Learn how to find them and use the data they contain. (Held in Discovery Center inside Genealogy Center)
“What’s in the Collection: Tour and Introduction to The Genealogy Center Collection” will begin at 7:30 p.m. The session is a brief tour of The Genealogy Center during which customers will be introduced to the Genealogy Center’s massive physical collection. The tour will provide a better idea of where to look for that fantastic book you located in our catalog. Participants should be prepared to stand and walk for half an hour.
“Biographical Works in Genealogical Research”, the last program of the evening, begins at 8:30 p.m. There are numerous sources of biographical works in the Genealogy Center. Discover how to find them and how to use them in discovering and documenting your family stories. (Held in Discovery Center inside Genealogy Center)
Customers are not required to have an Allen County Public Library card in order to take advantage of the after-hours access or programs. However, customers must be inside the Genealogy Center when the Main Library closes at 6 p.m. Access in the library during extended hours will be restricted to the Genealogy Center and the lobby area directly outside of the Center. Once customers leave the library that evening, they will not be allowed to re-enter the building.
Customers participating in the Midnight Madness hours should not park in the library’s underground garage, as they will not be able to exit the space after the library’s normal business hours.
