FWCS to close Tuesday for ‘Red for Ed’ Rally
Fort Wayne Community Schools have decided to close on Tuesday, Nov. 19, due to the overwhelming number of teachers who plan to attend the Red for Ed Rally in Indianapolis.
The district will remain open, as will school offices. Students and staff will make up the day on Friday, March 13, which was already set aside as a reserve make-up day.
“As long as I have been superintendent, I have been the first to support teachers and fight for the needs of our students at the Statehouse. As a District, we have pursued federal grants to provide pay increases for teachers when state funding was not enough,” Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said in a statement. “I appreciate the passion of our staff members to support our students, and I know many parents stand with them.”
With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana.
