Man detained after gunfire on Charlotte Avenue

A man firing a gun out of a house in the 900 block of Charlotte Avenue was detained by Fort Wayne Police Tuesday morning.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. police to the residence after receiving reports of gunfire. Officers heard gunshots upon arrival and while maintaining a perimeter around the house observed a man exit the front door. The subject quickly retreated back inside and fired additional gunshots. Police attempted to communicate with the man via telephone but he hung up on them.

At approximately 1:52 a.m. the Emergency Services Team (EST) and Crisis Response Team (CRT) were called to assist. In an attempt to encourage the subject to exit, EST members ordered the subject out of the residence via a loud speaker. The subject complied but once outside he failed to follow the verbal commands from EST members, who fired one round of less-lethal munitions. The subject was detained without further incident and transported to the detective bureau for an interview.

This incident remains under investigation.
