UPDATED: One dead, two injured in crash on I-69 Thursday; victim icdentified

One man was killed and two women were injured in an accident Thursday evening on Interstate 69 at the 315 mile marker.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Fort Wayne Police responded to calls that a vehicle was on its top and had struck the center median. Officers found a single vehicle with three people inside who were possibly pinned inside the overturned vehicle.

Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance paramedics arrived on scene and began to work at freeing the occupants. Paramedics pronounced the man dead and the two women were freed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital. One woman sustained life-threatening injuries; the other was less seriously injured.

The Allen County Coroner’s office later identified the victim as John P. Langin, 49, of Fort

Wayne. He died of blunt force trauma and is Allen County’s first traffic fatality of 2020.

Northbound lanes of I-69 were temporarily closed at the ramp during the investigation. Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling west on I-469 and exited onto the ramp to northbound I-69 and was not able to negotiate the curve. The vehicle left the roadway and entered into the grassy area before coming back onto I-69, overturned and went across all three lanes of the Interstate, almost striking at least one vehicle, before striking the center median.
