UPDATED: 8-year-old boy wounded Sunday upgraded to ‘stable’ condition
An 8-year-old boy who suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting early Sunday morning in the 3200 bock of Logan Avenue has been upgraded to stable condition, according to Fort Wayne Police.
At approximately 1:57 a.m. police responded to a report of a shooting and found the boy inside a home with an apparent gunshot wound to his shoulder/chest. Paramedics transported the boy to a local hospital in serious condition and his condition later was downgraded to life-threatening by a physician. Preliminary information indicates the victim was inside the residence and gunshots were fired from outside.
“We are extremely happy that the child is doing well. However, this does not negate the seriousness of this incident,” police said in a statement. “This type of incident should never be a community standard which we accept as commonplace. We are actively and aggressively investigating this shooting and would appreciate any help from the community.”
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.
