United Way creates emergency COVID-19 fund; donates first $100,000

The United Way of Allen County has taken several steps to help the community deal with the affects of COVID-19.

Funded agency partners:

United Way is releasing its funding restrictions to our partner agencies to allow flexibility of use according to their individual operational needs for the next 60 days as they respond to this community crisis.

Data driven decision making:

The United Way, along with others, is working with the Parkview Mirro Center for Research & Innovation and Allen County Department of Health to analyze and prioritize needs that have been identified by the community readiness survey.

Local philanthropy:

The United Way is asking local funders and individuals to donate to United Way of Allen County’s newly formed Emergency Relief Fund which United Way is investing the first $100,000. All of what is raised will be invested back into the community’s most pressing needs. United Way of Allen County will not be charging or receiving administration costs and will work alongside our most valued community nonprofits in an effort to have the most immediate impact.

“As we navigate this unprecedented time of uncertainty together, we believe our community will respond with compassion and extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need. It is our promise to you, that every dollar raised will be invested in the most effective and efficient way possible,” President and CEO Matthew Purkey said in a statement. “While we remain focused on the health and safety of our staff and those around us, we also are determined to provide continued service to the community.”
