New Haven to collect only trash containers issued by Republic Services

The city of New Haven has changed its waste collection guidelines to protect refuse workers and the community to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Effective immediately, garbage and recycling crews will collect only containers issued by Republic Services. Workers will not pick up additional personal containers, yard waste, bags, boxes or bulk items. New Haven is also temporarily suspending its large item and bulk sticker program. In addition, the city’s first full week monthly bulk item program has been suspended for April and possibly May.

Residents are asked to not place any items at the curb that do not fit in the 96-gallon dumpster, as they will not be picked up. Fort Wayne has already begun a similar policy.

The city will be hosting a self-serve spring clean-up day on May 2 and will have a dumpster available in the parking lot of City Hall. Further details will be posted on the City’s website and Facebook page. The city may rescheduling the city-wide clean-up day later this year.

New Haven has many government services available online at www.newhaven.in.gov including utility bill payments, permitting and access to City Council and Board of Public Works meetings. Residents with questions or non-emergency issues should contact the city of New Haven at (260) 748-7000 or by email at info@newhaven.in.gov. Updated information will be posted on the city of New Haven Facebook page.
