NACS to open online kindergarten enrollment Monday

The Northwest Allen County Schools will open online enrollment for incoming kindergarteners for the 2020-2021 school year beginning Monday, April 13. As a result of the stay-at-home order from Gov. Eric Holcomb to diminish the spread of COVID-19, a link to an online form for parents and guardians is available at www.nacs.k12.in.us

“Under normal circumstances, each school hosts a ‘Kindergarten Round-up’ or welcome event for the students and their families in the early spring,” Assistant Superintendent Gloria Shamanoff said in a statement. “We anticipate scheduling opportunities for families to visit schools prior to the start of school in August. We can hardly wait to meet our newest students and to see all of our students again.”

State statute allows children 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2020, to attend kindergarten.

Due to the growth of the school district, NACS requires students to reside within district attendance areas to qualify to attend a NACS school.

Parents/guardians will need the following information:

• Certified birth certificate

• Utility bill (or proof of residence)

• Valid parent driver license (must show current residence)

• Immunization records from physician’s office

• Any relevant custody documents

Schools need contact information for new students to prepare for their arrival in the fall. This step initiates a lengthy process that enables administrators to determine staffing needs, materials, technology needs, transportation and much more.
