Top five Romeo Langford prep performances
Romeo Langford has been wowing fans around the state for the last few years at the prep level. On April 30, he will announce where he will take his talents in college.
As news-sentinel.com continues its lead-up to Langford’s commitment, we look back at the top five performances from the New Albany senior over the years.
March 19, 2016 vs. Southport
While Langford opened many eyes around the state in leading New Albany to its first state championship since 1973 in a win over McCutcheon, it was the performance the week before that was bigger.
Facing Paul Scruggs and Southport in the 3A south semistate, Langford went for a school-record 46 points, including 43 in the first three quarters. He shot 15-of-24 from the field, including 8-of-12 from three-point range. He also grabbed nine rebounds.
Langford’s legend had already started cultivating prior to the Southport game, but it exploded thereafter.
Dec. 9, 2017 vs. North Side
A much-hyped showdown with Keion Brooks Jr. and the Legends, Langford led the 97-59 destruction of North with a 42-point effort one day after losing a conference game to Floyd Central.
Amidst a pro-Indiana crowd that chanted “IU! IU! IU!” at the senior, Langford was dominant from beginning to end. He made 14 of 19 shots from the floor, including 6-of-9 from three-point range.
Jan. 19, 2018 vs. Princeton (Ohio)
In a big-time showdown on ESPNU, Langford put up 36 points while battling a sprained wrist in a 65-64 overtime victory over Cincinnati Princeton.
With high school hoops fans watching across the country, Langford opened the game on fire, hitting a trio of three-pointers and dropping 17 points in the first eight minutes.
Feb. 1, 2018 vs Jennings County
After being held to single-digit scoring through the first quarter, Langford appeared to be headed for an off night at Jennings County. Then, the senior went into high gear.
Langford put up 19 second-quarter points to help New Albany go into halftime with a 30-point lead. He ended up with 63 points in the 50-point victory on 22-of-35 shooting. He hit 6-of-14 from three-point range and added 10 rebounds and seven steals.
Feb. 9, 2018 at Providence
Eight days after torching Jennings County, Langford did it again on the road at Providence.
The senior’s night started well, with a full-court shot dropping at the end of the first quarter. It ended with 53 points, the second-highest total in his high school career.
Langford shot 31 times and made 17 of them, including five three-pointers and going 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. The senior also notched 11 rebounds.
