Ryan Brandt’s collegiate recruitment is off to a good start.

After visiting West Lafayette last month, the Angola junior received his first scholarship offer from the Boilermakers earlier this week.

“I’m so thankful and humbled to receive an offer from the Purdue Boilermakers,” Brandt tweeted on Monday.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety is just starting to dip his feet into the recruiting water after a standout sophomore campaign for the Hornets on the gridiron. As part of a solid Angola defense, Brandt made 51 tackles, blocked three kicks and picked off five passes as the Hornets went 12-1 and won its first sectional championship in 25 years.

“He is a great kid who is very tough-minded and has a tremendous work ethic,” Angola coach Andy Thomas said.

According to Thomas, Brandt ran a 4.59 40-yard dash at a camp at Purdue and can power clean 300 pounds.

The offer from Purdue is the first, but will likely not be the last. According to 247sports.com, Brandt ranks as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2020 and the No. 24 safety in the country.
