North Side High School to induct 10 new members to Athletic Hall of Fame on August 25

North Side High School will induct their fourth class into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame this August.

Started in 2015, the North Side High School Athletic Hall of Fame award recognizes and honors outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches and others who have made significant contributions to the athletic program and have been instrumental in promoting the growth of athletics at North Side High School. This started with 23 inductees in 2015.

The 2018 class is headed by longtime coach and volunteer Don Hunter, who coached football and wrestling and still participates with the athletic department today. Joining him will be fellow longtime coach Ry Taliaferro, who coached volleyball at the school.

Eight former North Side athletes will finish up the class, starting with 1994 graduate Katie Bruening Jackson, who participated in basketball, volleyball under Taliaferro and softball. She later returned to North Side as the head girls basketball coach. Other inductees are Steve Nelson (1978), George Sweigart (1978), Tim Zumbaugh (1971), Steven Bulmahn (1965), Brad Bendure (1961), George Taylor (1955) and Archie Adams (1950).

The 2018 class will be added on Saturday, August 25 with a ceremony in the school’s auditorium following a breakfast that morning. The group will also be recognized the night before prior to the Legends’ home football game against Bishop Dwenger.
