Tailing the Komets: Stanford Ratings return

A few years ago we posted weekly computer rankings of Central Hockey League teams based on a system developed by Joe Stanford. Stanford, who works for the Indiana Board of Tax Review, attended his first Komets game in 1974 and developed his own formula for ranking teams.

The way the system works, in layman’s terms, Stanford types in the scores and locations of every game, and then compares all the teams as far as overall winning margin and strength of schedule. If Team X beats Team Y one night and then loses to Team Z the next, it could be inferred that Team Z would beat Team Y. Stanford’s system does that for every game to determine the rankings.

Here are the rankings for this week.
